In 1990, I began to use a computer for making schemes of my painting. I needed careful plans and visualizing skills. When I started to paint on a wood panel, I could not change a plan because of the techniques and materials.
After using a computer, I could make many variations of schemes very fast and could consider plans very well. But after that my visual consciousnesswas broken into different directions. One direction was into the invisible electronic world, and another one was in real material space.
I made my painting images in the electronic world first. Then I made the appearance of actual painting in this world. My paintings were going to be closerto three dimensional objects. The reasons were I guess, my schemes were not sketches on a paper which was two dimensions, and materials and techniques were based on a medieval ideawhich was closer to a concept of sculptures or furniture. Electronic virtual images were freer to make up an imagination of two dimensions and other dimensions.
Visual artists have struggled with basic materialsby hands labor since a cave. They have to think with their hands. It has been a quite basic activity for artists, and made art histories(even different art histories from generally understood art history). But I am not sure in very near future. It is not only a visual art field but another activities for a human life too. Year by year, our consciousness is going into an unreal world. We can not go anywhere from this material world though. Our body and activities must remain in here. However we may belong to the last age of materialsand tangible art history world.
