problem

Aside from the benefits of standardisation there is no particular reason why an author should choose to use this particular design-paradigm: In fact many computer games use both custom hardware and software systems in their user-interface design as a means to developing content that transcends or does not require the characteristics of common computer interfaces.

However, such a strategy is beyond the means of many authors; either because they lack the technical skills to develop such systems or because they lack the financial resources required to develop or buy those skills and the hardware required in their development and construction. Due to this most authors appear at least grudgingly satisfied to produce work within a design-paradigm over which they have no control or means of intervention - even where that design might be entirely inappropriate to their work.
