More Politicians Target of Pseudo Sites July 16, 1999

Rumblings Archives

Two months ago, we brought you the story of George W. Bush's move to register all the domain names he could think of for his campaign Web site, and the domains that got away and fell into the wrong hands. Now it's Republican candidate for Senate Rudolph Giuliani, who figures on facing First Lady Hillary Clinton, that has fallen victim to a parody site. The folks at ®™ark, the masterminds behind the Bush site, have put up a site at yesrudy.com that looks exactly like the candidate's official site, right down to the "Paid for by Friends of Giuliani" line at the bottom. But if you look closely at the text, there are some lines no serious candidate would dare post on a Web site, such as "Please join me as I commence a campaign to insert myself surgically into the U.S. Senate," and "I am the next Vladimir Ilich Lenin." The ®™ark gang aren't Clinton backers either, yesrudy.com links to HillaryNo.com.
