Poem of the Day
A Maypole by Jonathan
Swift 1725
Deprived of root, and
branch and rind, Yet flowers I bear of every
kind: And such is my prolific power,
They bloom in less than half an hour;
Yet standers-by may plainly see They get
no nourishment from me. My head with
giddiness goes round, And yet I firmly stand
my ground: All over naked I am seen, And
painted like an Indian queen. No
couple-beggar in the land E'er joined such
numbers hand in hand. I joined them fairly
with a ring; Nor can our parson blame the
thing. And though no marriage words are
spoke, They part not till the ring is broke;
Yet hypocrite fanatics cry, I'm but an
idol raised on high; And once a weaver in
our town, A damned Cromwellian, knocked me
down. I lay a prisoner twenty years, And
then the jovial cavaliers To their old post
restored all three - I mean the church, the
king, and me.

It seems I am not posting

Maypole Song
Rise and greet the morning sun,
my kind and gentle knight, Golden dawn has
risen, the darkness taken flight.
Green
and purple dragonflies dance in the meadow's glow,
Leaves shiver brilliantly in autumn's windy
flow.
A chipmonk sits so patiently upon
the oak tree's base, Waiting for the gentle
one to wake and show his face.
The horses
stamp impatiently, the birds practice their songs,
Waiting for the one they love to wake
refreshed and strong.
Rise and greet the
morning sun, my kind and gentle knight, The
world is dark and scary still, but you will make
it right.

MAY
Oh verdant temptress, dressed
in green, Makes me forget old winter's scene;
Of northwind blowing its loud gale, With
sleet and snow, of cold and hail.
Your
yellow daffodils make me Forget the churning
winter sea; Your forest clumps of sweet
morels, Obliterate December chills.
Young calves who frolic in the dale,
Dim the thoughts of winter's gale;
Dandelions dressed in yellow, Make
thoughts poetic, always mellow.
You
jezebel! Your lies sublime Destroy my memories
of time! Your promised days so warm, serene;
Belie the winter, wild and mean.
Your
morning showers do often drench The Earth's
desire to be quenched; Your evening breezes so
sublime, Remind me of an older time.
The robin's early morning song, Wakes
me to days both warm and long; The cardinal in
evening's breeze, Sings Mother Nature's
symphonies.
Oh May, you have so captured
me, I fear no time that I'll be free; Nay,
let me linger in your arms, Enamored with your
many charms.
Long let me lie beneath your
soil, My days long past of earthly toil;
That I may gaze upon your trees, My soul
inhale your evening breeze.
Michael J.
Larkin

It is not Always May
The sun is bright,--the air is
clear, The darting swallows soar and sing.
And from the stately elms I hear The
bluebird prophesying Spring.
So blue you
winding river flows, It seems an outlet from
the sky, Where waiting till the west-wind
blows, The freighted clouds at anchor lie.
All things are new;--the buds, the leaves,
That gild the elm-tree's nodding crest,
And even the nest beneath the eaves;--
There are no birds in last year's nest!
All things rejoice in youth and love,
The fulness of their first delight! And
learn from the soft heavens above The melting
tenderness of night.
Maiden, that read'st
this simple rhyme, Enjoy thy youth, it will
not stay; Enjoy the fragrance of thy prime,
For oh, it is not always May!
Enjoy
the Spring of Love and Youth, To some good
angel leave the rest; For Time will teach thee
soon the truth, There are no birds in last
year's nest!
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Was lurking on a thread
about old cars over at Free Republic. A poster
named Anamensis posted this poem about his first
love. No title. I think it's great. Here it is.
I had me a 73 Vega All rusty,
crusty bronze with big white patches where
the scabs fell off and the leathery, vinyl
sunburnt skin on the roof peeled back in
strips and flapped all free when I really
let 'er rip down I-63. The windshield was
cracked and the old beige seats erupted
from boils in the cracks of the seats
where the mildew grew but the drive shaft
was fine from what I could see through the
hole in the floor. Oh I loved my crusty old
Vega, her rear end wobbled like a
hoochy-coochy dancer but it didn't bother me;
I couldn't see. That Vega didn't have no
rear-view mirror.....whee!
Your assignment (should
you choose to take it), is to come up with a
title. |

Evil weeds in the garden
invade, With silent predatory roots
Encircling the life earth’s love has made
Smothering dreams of her tender young shoots.
Yet still in morning’s garden blossoms
hope Drinking light beyond weedy finger’s

Padstow Mayday Carol (as sung by
Steeleye Span)
Unite and unite and let us
all unite, For summer is a coming
today! And whither we are going, we all
will unite In
the very merry month of May!
The
young men of Padstow, they might if they could.
For
summer...etc. They might have built a
longboat and guilded it with gold In the very... etc.
The young women of Padstow, the
might if they could. They might have made a
garland of the white rose and the red.
Rise up, Mrs. Johnson, all in your gown of
green. You are as fine a lady as waits upon
the queen.
Oh where is King George? Oh
where has he gone? He's out in his longboat,
all on the salt sea. Up flies a kite, down
flies a lark. And Ursula Birdhood she had an
old yowe And it died in her own park.
With a merry ring and with a joyful
spring. For
summer...etc. How happy are the little
birds and the merrier we will sing In the very merry month
of May!
Where are the young men,
who now might advance? Some they are in
England and some have gone to France.

A Heavenly May
Day
To this first of this year's May
Spring has found its blessed way
Heaven feels this way I pray Warm and
green just like today
As I draw towards
that sweet Day Help me trust You, come what
may
Let each word my mouth may say Be
the one that You'd convey
When I'm done
with this life's fray Before Your feet my
cares I'll lay
And though earth's skies
are sometimes gray With You by my side, I'll
be okay
All honor and glory to You I'll
pay And then forever with You I'll stay

I didn't see any in

I suppose, if I were
french I would be very concerned. No anarchist

content. _________________ "If more of us

I went and got all pretty
for you. Ask MBY. And you want to say I'm not
there for you. I'm hurt! I think it's going to
take some time for this heart to mend, or some
real good cooking.
Well Cote, seems I've
been cast aside. How about you and me hit the
range? Your stang or mine?

I love those! Saw them
earlier in another place, ahem. I tried to copy
and send to friends but I couldn't. It gives me
the flag that say there is no application to open
it. _________________ "If more of us valued

Now, now, BA
It isn't like she cast
you aside. She just cast you down a bit. You know
nothing about women.
He does look really
nice today. Cleans up real well. His outfit almost
perfectly matches the cowboy in the little
GIF. _________________ "If more of us valued

Bentfeather Coteblanche and
girls
I saw a commercial the
other day with a guy in it that looks just like
BA. It was a progressive.com
commercial, and the guy was at his computer
with a broken arm (hah, BA, broken arm), and
wished something, and his apartment got all jazzy
with nice lights and a dancing gnome-thing. Then
his roommate turns into a beautiful girl with a
pizza. Well, the guy at the computer looks a lot
like BA. Could be his evil twin in
fact. _________________ "If more of us

I've

. Funny, I do remember the girl and pizza
very well.

You and your girlfriends
have been on a women of the world unite trip for
the last week.
I have not!!! So wrong
there. Just because I took up for your wife the
other day when, well, we won't go there. That is
far from a women unite trip.
