The Unseen Gulf War
by Peter Turnley

These photos may disturb you. I hope they do. Let's try another definition for "war" other than a slot in your six o'clock news.

Wow. Check out this utterly superbly-done interactive flash sketchpad (as far as I can tell, it's a part of the GE Imagination At Work series). Link tip: mike.

Normally we don't post stuff like this - would rather leave it to pirated-sites to shine the spotlight on examples of evil design thievery.

However, we're making a special exception for HTTP Design Media because it's been a while since we've seen such blatant theft. And, Per, what are you doing on their copyright page?

Moped Army

"One day may the streets be filled with the roaring of 50cc engines and the highways be too clogged for bloated four wheelers to travel on. We enjoy the beauty of the moped, and its adherence to friendly travel, easy stop communication, and the ability to enjoy the trip - as well as the destination."

2-Stroke Power. Swarm and Destroy.

I honestly don't know what to say?

Honkey Threads... "Honkey Threads is a new clothing company started by a couple of suburbanites who wanted to have a fun poke at the expense of white people everywhere."

There's some fun t-shirts in here for everyone. [Thanks Russell]

The Yes Men! pose as reps from various organizations and do various odd things.

They also make software such as Reamweaver that lets you "hack" sites like CNN etc. They do a lot of crazy stuff so search around. I am sure you will find a lot of things I havn't.

(warning: contains a discretely hidden job posting)

If your company happens to be looking to hire a brilliant information architect, check out the portfolio of Catherine Sawall.

If you are not planning on hiring anyone, and God knows not many are, then go and build yourself a Flash Face instead.

Our friends at designobject are taking a little survey - take it and have your name put in Thursday's drawing for gift certificates, incase products or a case of the most excellent cd-covers.

For The Masses, the design portal for all things New Zealand-ish, looks very crisp & friendly on the eyes in its newest incarnation.

The only small caveat from my side is the fact they're doing http re-direction on their urls, which makes it almost impossible to use the browser back-button.

Don't let the bare-bones site design fool you - the illustration/art work at n8vandyke is quite superb. Mono-chromatic Moebius-esque goodness all around [tip: matthew].

I agree, there is nothing in this world that is worth killing other people for. Humans are pathetic little stupid violent animals, seriously. It's disgusting...

As today is optional Martin Luther King Day in The States, I'd grab this rare opportunity to express my disgust with a looming war in Iraq. I sort of felt bad for not participating in the demonstrations, so this is my 5 cents.

K10k is by no means a forum for political debate, so I will keep my mouth shut about this subject from now on. I only speak for myself, but I hope that this is a shared opinion among our other newswriters.
