Resisting the drives of the system has its price. Studying in the university is enormously expensive; following a course of study unpopular to the system means having no clear way to recoup the costs. Not having a stable job with an employer who can effectively require you work 60 or more hours per week, who can legally read everything you write on the office computer (including e-mail), and who legally owns everything you do or think on the job, usually means not being able to afford health care, which in turn leads to dwindling health. Lacking the money to buy a car means relying on almost uniformly grossly inadequate public transportation.
