One morning in June 1963 at 5:17 A.M. The train station clock stopped and time suspended for everyone in Skopje at that moment. A very powerful earthquake
had struck It was a time of incredible loss. It became a chance to rebuild, to start over. Architects and relief workers from all over the world came to help rebuild the city. 25 years later, she and her children were staying in one of the Gradski Zid towers - a series of buildings that form a sort of city wall designed by a Japanese architect. They were very close to the old epicenter. It had happened before. It could happen again (there were 2 quakes not so far away during her stay) Always sense of unease.
The changes run deep. |
