Mrs. Hoptmann fell off her fire escape. She'd been sunbathing there - no,
she was watering her plants
- no - so how did it really
happen?
"Nothing happened," says a
passerby with a deep voice.
"Nobody fell off a fire escape."
"But I saw it clearly with my
own eyes! Or was it just... a mirage?
I saw a dark figure spiraling
down... True, just above the
ground the figure hesitated
a little... Probably didn't want
to suffer too many bruises. But
then she hit the sidewalk full force."
"It wasn't Mrs. Hoptmann," said
the onlooker in his baritone. "It was
Mr. Johnson disguised as Mrs. Hoptmann. He's finally paid dearly for his
escapades."
