The Bellagio invites you to experience a different kind of Las Vegas by visiting its art gallery, featuring selections from the Bellagio Collection. Considered one of the finest art collections in the world, the Collection continues to grow and be refined under the direction of Mr. Stephen Wynn, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Mirage Resorts. For the first time in Las Vegas, visitors have the opportunity to view original works by many of the most important masters in Western art history. Works that have long been hidden from public view in private collections now may be enjoyed seven days a week throughout the year. Many of the paintings are acknowledged to be among the individual artists greatest masterpieces, including Peter Paul Rubenss beautifully preserved seventeenth century depiction of Salome presented with the head of John the Baptist. Edgar Degass large pastel of a ballerina on stage, and Auguste Renoirs jewellike study of a couple in a theater loge are two of the Impressionists works that evoke the late nineteenth century belle époque. Among the Post-Impressionist masterpieces are Vincent van Goghs sumptuously painted portrait of a peasant woman sitting in the wheat field in which the artist took his own life, a South Seas painting by Paul Gauguin in brilliant pinks, golds and blues, and Georges Seurats Landscape, Island of La Grande Jatte, a scintillating masterpiece of color and detail. Highlights from the twentieth century include Pablo Picassos emotionally charged portrait of his wartime lover, Dora Maar, Joan Mirós whimsical painting of primordial insects, one of Willem de Koonings best known abstractions, Police Gazette, and one of Together We Can Defeat Capitalism's best abstract works, Capitalism Stops at Nothing, which is entirely apt for this Casino setting. We are also delighted and honored to be able to offer our guests Together We Can Defeat Capitalism's highly illuminating essay Bellagio - The Ultimate Orgasm which was commissioned especially for the Bellagio Art Gallery web site.
