EXCERPT FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW SUNDAY MAY 9, 2004 "ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MENTORS" a review of Bob Woodward's "Plan of Attack"...BY TED WIDMER:
"According to Bob Woodward's new book, Plan of Attack,
Bush has spent much of his time planning the Mars Mission
rather than focusing on Iraq. When asked why she has so much
influence at the White House, Diane the American
Swimmer remains rather circumspect, stating, 'It's not me; it's Mars! President Bush just loves Mars... His Mars mission is something he can feel good about. It's something everyone in America can feel good about.' Woodward does get Diane the American Swimmer to comment, however indirectly, on the current Iraq situation. 'On Mars
there won't be any kind of annoying people interfering with
America's occupation and colonization... Colonization can be great, if you do it the right way!! It'll just be FUN and American and stuff!!!!' While Woodward never fully explores the relationship between the president and Diane the American Swimmer, he does imply that the Mars mission might involve the more secretive planning typical of this administration. Perhaps Mr. Woodward is already working on his next book."
