The following update was intended to be relayed from Northwest Spirit early yesterday morning. I was very tired at the time and got the addressing wrong. Northwest Spirit is now at her dock on the ship canal. Replacement for back up autopilot will arrive tomorrow along with another spare. Plan to re-start the voyage Sunday. NORTHWEST SPIRIT UPDATE 22/DEC/95, 11-UTC, 3AM PST: LAT 48deg 12min, LON 123deg 11min Between Port Townsend and Port Angeles... Headed back to Seattle.
The back up autopilot has developed a problem... Spent all night trying to solve it with no luck. I can not go with just one. So back to Seattle to get a replacement. Will call in the morning and have it next day aired.
One could not have asked for better weather at this time of year to start such a voyage. Except for the autopilot problem, it was a great sail. I turn around near Port Angeles an hour ago and would have been to sea by dawn.
I will restart as soon as in the next couple of days when it is fixed.
