Signs
I am interested in how we interact with an environment we visit for
the first time (or we think we do so). The memory, accumulated from
this life, cannot serve us well in that case, only the ancient feeling
of orientating ourselves according to the logic of the city, its flow
of live energy and the language of signs is relevant. Experiences can
also function as fake alarms, they help us only to survive certain unpleasant
situations or order us the precaution of a foreigner.
Views
The most unbelievable topographic truth is that almost every point on
Earth has survived millions of bypassers, millions of looks, touches,
inspirations, loves, ignoring. The streets, the landscapes I see for
the first time, have been looked at, inhabited, used. All of this immateriality
is printed in them and it manifests itself in the form of attraction
you feel when you look at them.
Situations
One second or thousand years are equal in the vast hole of eternity.
The compression of space-time continuum in one materialised moment can
be seen as William Blake's grain of sand. The moment, when I am standing
in the middle of a situation, I realise I am (like everybody else is)
the centre of my universe. The position of the observer creates the
situation on its own, it influences its evolution and thus observer's
presence becomes the most important fact.
Roads
The means of communication are roads. At least two points are mentally
connected through the physicality of asphalt, sand or water. We are
not lost, either direction we take on them. They can also be dead end,
long as a lifetime or simply lead deeper into a labyrinth. Sometimes
you meet death hitchhiking by their side.
