I left Nicaragua with my family during the revolution as we weren't going to stay and watch the Sandinistas hacer mierda a nuestro pais. I've grown up in Houston and studied in the States, but visited Nicaragua in 1994. During that visit my father decided to stay and fight for our family land that had been stolen from us by the Sandinistas and given to people who did nothing with it, allowed a beautiful home to got to shit and didn't bother to cultivate the land.
Since then we do have our home back and my parents have moved back to Nicaragua along with my youngest brother who has grown up there, but will soon be coming to school here in the states. When I'm in Nicaragua, I have a great time, but I would never want to live there. It's a mess, specially now that Ortega is seeking to steal away the government - it goes to show how much corruption and ignorance there is in the country which are the reasons that Nicaragua doesn't move ahead. Today I believe that it is considered even poorer than Haiti. I really don't see any future for Nicaragua. With the threat of Ortega and the Sandinistas retaking the presidency international corporations are pulling out. I can only imagine how the U.S. will react - I doubt Bush will stand for this shit.
