U.S. quits ABM treaty
President Bush announced today that the United States is pulling out of the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, effective in six months. Bush said the Cold War-era pact with the former Soviet Union no longer fits the current U.S.-Russia relationship and "hinders our government's ability to develop ways to protect our people from future terrorist or rogue-state missile attacks."
