Macke, August. Painting, Man Reading in the Park. 1914.
Van Gogh, Vincent. Painting, Poets Garden. 1888.

Pinsky, Robert. The Sounds of Poetry. 1998.
Ward, J.P. From Alphabet to Logos.  Second Aeon Publications, 1970.

Two poems are presented. One poem affirms the lyric I, and the other evokes the disembodied self of postmodern dialogue. Van Gogh’s painting Poet’s Garden frames a quotation by Robert Pinsky about Ezra Pound’s definition of poetry as embodied.
