Recently I had a travel dream: I had the possibility to try out a new transportation medium. It was a kind of small cable-car standing on the floor with one seat inside. I took place and the cable-car was shut. Now the transportation process was triggered: my seat was very suddenly turned in a 90° angle to the front, so that I was facing the floor now- and in the same moment, this very floor of the cable-car was flung open- I was looking out into a world in which I was sitting upright again. The cable- car vanished; I found myself sitting in a train in Australia. My travel guide sat face to me and explained euphorically this technique of instant transportation: by means of a quantum leap, the space between starting point and travel destination had been folded. I was not convinced of this kind of traveling- didnī t it reinforce a problem I am already having with airway travel? The said- to- be advantage of fast travel means that I am catapulted into a totally different and distant place far too suddenly, without my soul being able to follow me. BIRGIT KRAMER |
