/ 1 / 00 Just yesterday I was having a conversation about Railways and how they are integral to the politics, economy and industry of a place. I was in Dungannon a market town west of the river Bann discussing a project for the park that is now on the site of the old Railway station. The group of people involved were recounting stories about the railway line that ran through the town connecting it with other market towns in the vicinity and with larger towns further afield. The demise of the railway in this region coincided with the demise and lack of industrial development in this region. It all tied into the general picture of governmental policy towards regions west of the Bann at the time. Far from being a nostalgic conversation this was a conversation about current affairs and how a town negotiates these situations. |
